His masterful Palomar: The Heartbreak Soup Stories weaves a complex and intricate tale about the people living in the mythical Central American town and I wouldn’t be surprised if the epic is one day adapted for TV/movies. He’s certainly not a one-trick pony, though. Gilbert’s penchant for the bizarre and demented always appealed to my sensibilities.
